"The Constellation of J.P Brennan" from The "Mo Chara" Portraits

J.P is an Irish American Director i have known for some 22+ Years .This is from an Ongoing Project where i take people that i have met on my journey whom i have a special connection and whom really encompass the meaning of ‘Mo Chara’…My Friend in Irish.

I composed JP in front of a Darkened Film set Stage in Hollywood i purposely positioned him so his Head would be in line with the lights hanging down in the stage behind as it seemed to me to look like a Constellation of Stars of whom JP is a Shining upcoming Star.

"Angela J."...from the "Mo Chara "Portraits

Angela Jones is a Hollywood producer that i have known over 20 years ,she has been a shining light everytime i see her.She allowed me complete artistic freedom to shoot this so i basked her face in light and took against an old cracked wall to emphasize the brightness of her inner spirit and of her personality…

"Angela F from the Mo Chara Portraits

Angela is my Niece and one of my regular Muses ,we have known each other over 25 years and are very comfortable with talking about real life issues.I was talking to Angela and she was going through a particular hard time,as we were speaking she started to tear up…i had my Camera in hand and i took this beautiful photograph of a person I love in a very vulnerable moment just before the first tears. This has become a testament to all of our own personal struggles we go through …Raw and Real Life..this is what im after in my work.

Travis

Travis

Taking for my ‘Mo Chara’ Series ,Travis is a man i have known some 20+ years and ive seen him work up from being a Personal Assistant on Commercial Film Sets in Hollywood to now where he is Directing,Producing and being a wonderful 1st AD.

There are some people you meet in this journey of life who are Golden,Just beautiful kind and creative spirits.I grabbed Travis from a very busy day he was having and i took him into the back streets of downtown Los Angeles…i wanted the Bokeh to be an urban street and contrast his good looks and kind eyes with his wild and Crazy Hair and beard .Became an Instant favorite portrait of mine

Chris

Chris

Chris is a friend and work colleague ive know 22+ years ,weve worked on Commercial Film sets in Hollywood on some hard hard jobs, last two years hes gone through the life grinder with a series of events that would break most people ..i grabbed him from work and i used a very short focus i wanted his eyes razor sharp and for a hard drop off into the Bokeh …i stood above him and i wanted a look that was reminiscent of a soldier fighting in the trenches of life.

Real,Raw and full of emotion…this is what im after in my work.

"The Girl In the Broken Window"

A Portrait of my Daughter Daniella ,a very significant image for me as its one of the most outstanding images i have ever taken and was at the end of a 3month struggle to find inspiration,i was going trough a hard personal period and the usual ease in which i see images had stopped …i literally could not see photographically ,i took my camera everywhere with me and barely took it out. This day i was working with my Family and was near a derelict building ,i saw this broken window and i saw this image as a flash.I called my daughter over my number one muse since day 1.I had her go inside the building and i stepped back and composed so the three non broken panes would reflect the vista behind me,as the windows were covered in cobwebs and dust it gives this beautiful muted look.I wanted Daniella to give me a stoic mona lisa look ,the result is stunning.

Rob and the Prohibition Tunnels

Rob and the Prohibition Tunnels

I took this for my ‘Mo Chara’ Series ,Rob a work colleague and myself were working downtown los Angles near City Hall…underneath City Hall is a Maze of old Prohibition Tunnels and Speak-Easys from the 1920’s where corrupt City Officials would transport booze all around Los Angeles Downtown. We had to do a little trespassing to get this…My Art will Not Be stopped.
