Therapy session at Vasquez Rocks yesterday, i had to wait for three hours for the sun to peek out at Sunset .....and it did right in the middle of an Eight Minute exposure basking the top of the right ridge and the whole left Rock formation in this glorious moving light ...Landscape photography for me is so the Ying Yang of all my other work which is Human Interaction and Documentary where you have to really see and compose fast...this is about slowing it all down....the Hike in with 45lbs of equipment walking around and climbing around hearing the sound of your own body as it interacts with the landscape...finding the Composition..working out where the sun will set ...setting up the shot .shooting some tests ...attaching the Magic Box to the Tripod and then waiting ....all alone ..the sound of the Breeze and a slight chill in the winter air ...looking at the clouds for ages ...lost in the beauty of the Moment ...and then if lucky ...preparation meets Opportunity and the Universe kisses the earth in sublime perfection...
Amateur Landscapes Award Winner Nominee
once a month i travel up the 154Chumish Highway just north of Santa Barbara,I always have my camera with me as its quite a beautiful drive with changing weather and Vistas. One afternoon i saw this image in my head from the highway,I got off went down a small Farm Road and captured this stunning moody image of the Vines. One of my favorite landscape images of 2018.
Taken off the Chumish Highway,California, the leading lines up to the Water Tower in contrast with the Blue Sky.I visualized this image as i walked towards it and the result reminds me of the Diane Arbus quote “I never have taken a picture I’ve intended. They’re always better or worse.”.This was so much better than even i envisaged .
Taken one morning with a beautiful sunrise by Malibu Pier,CA.This was a 15min exposure using the Lee Filter System Of ND filters. Landscape photography is part of the Ying Yang of my Art,unlike Documentary Photography which is fast paced and i have to be very quick with compositions,Landscape forces me to slow down to get the tripod out, walk around scouting the compositions and then setting up the filter system.I Truely love it.
Taken up in the Santa Monica Mountains in southern California during a very rare misty morning…I climbed up a Hill and was greeted by this Vista as i set up the 1970’s film ‘Play Misty For Me’ came into my thoughts and seemed to be the perfect title.
Bear Claw Lodge is the indian name ,often referred to as the Devils Tower in Wyoming.Made Famous from the film “Encounters of the 3rd Kind’
I took this on my 56th Birthday,i was travelling to do a Documentary on the Indian Relay Riders and i was lucky enough to break away for a day and visit this place.Up Close is packed with tourists ,i wanted to get away..i found a back road and i parked and walked through the trees listening to a Cacophony of Insects. This place is a very spiritual place for the Native Americans and all alone on the Day i was Born i understood why…No Angst…No Anxiety ..Just Peace within.
Taken from the Santa Monica Mountains where i often go to hike,it was a particular brutal Hike amongst thick undergrowth and trees so i hardly saw any views,Iwent around a curve and was greeted by this sight.I love this Image as its my City,Los Angeles a mad,bad and crazy City yet from this distance its calm almost meditational.

I have a love Hate affair with the desert around Los Angeles,Love it for photography, hate it for the Heat and sandstorms. Taken just outside Mohave dry-lake bed Ca.
Taken in 1984 in Scotland using FP4 Film pushed to 1600 for increased grain. One of my all time favorite tree images .
Driving up near Nipomo Central Coast California is a lot of Farmland,as i was driving i was struck at this cluster of trees with all these Agriculture lines leading to them, the air was still thick with smoke from the recent Wildfires and i had to trudge about 1/2 a mile through a Muddy Field, well worth it.,
Taken off the 154 Chumish Highway.I love the trees that litter the landscape, old and Gnarly,a perfect contrast to the perfect vineyard lines.
Taken on a trip with my daughters we were driving a little north of Galway and i came across this old stone house with dry-stone walls ,i had to stop the car and as my daughters slept i created Art.
Taken with a Cell phone, driving around Connemara in Ireland i cam across this stunning Abby deep in the rolling hills of Connemara west Ireland.I did not have my cameras but i did have an I-PhoneX.
Really is an example of the best Camera to use is the one you have with you ..
This is a very very special Image taken in the Highlands of Scotland three years ago when i returned to the British Isles after being away for 24 years ..i truely NEVER thought i would get to see Scotland ever again…i was traveling with a longtime friend from Inverness and we stopped by this Loch a beautiful Rainbow appeared almost to greet me Home again.
Sometimes I feel like I live in a black and white world and all I see is the shapes and lines intersecting and interacting together and creating a feeling of something deep inside ....101 Vista .
North Of Santa Barbara,California on a very wet stormy day i took a side road on instinct, about 5miles in i was rewarded with the beauty my heart and lens were looking for..
Driving to pick up my daughter in the middle of a long drive lost in my own thoughts i just felt the urge to take a detour…i was all alone and i got out and i instantly felt the symbolism of this long long Path as a metaphor for my life and how often we feel alone on this path but as long as i have Hope i will never be alone .
This image is very important to me as i took it midway through a very stressful period of my life where i could not feel any inspiration.External Stress causing internal chaos, one day driving alone to try and find peace i took a side road off a freeway in Southern California,it was a very rare super wet stormy day ,i found myself all alone in the middle of a stunning wooded area,i was mesmerized and staring at beauty i found the inspiration i was looking for.
a Long Exposure at sunset on a cold winters day at Vasquez Rocks ,Ca.
